Kalewhats?

Kalettes! Introducing an exciting NEW vegetable that is a cross between Brussel sprouts and Kale! This mashup created a vegetable with a deliciously sweet and nutty flavor! Plus, they are extremely versatile and can be cooked in many different ways. AND, they are certified Non-GMO!

How did they do it? Well, Brussel sprouts and kale are both part of the Brassica family along with cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. This close relationship makes them easy to be crossed! Kalettes were created through traditional plant breeding. Kale is full of antioxidants and nutrients and Brussel sprouts are full of fiber. This makes Kalettes the latest and greatest incredibly healthy superfood!

How to eat them? Kalettes can be sautéed, roasted, grilled or even eaten raw! They can be cooked whole or chopped to get more of the flavor of the Brussel sprout core. They also cook faster than Brussel sprouts because they are not quite as dense.

Right now we have bags of kalettes available in our fresh produce section. Check out Sawyer Garden Center’s Pinterest page for Kalettes recipes!

Time to try something new!
