Helpful Hedges!

Hedges not only add beauty and value to your home they are the backbone of any landscape. They create a backdrop and set the tone of your garden and serve many functions. You can separate your yard from the neighbors, hide a utility box, soften a corner of your house or draw attention to a door or focal point. There is a tree or shrub for every yard and situation. Here are some helpful hedges you will find at Sawyer Home and Garden Center!

For privacy and shielding

Hollies - Evergreen shrubs with glossy green or multicolored foliage. Some varieties grow 10-25 feet tall. Grows best in full sun locations. 

Arborvitae - Evergreen conifer with light green foliage. Varieties range in height anywhere from 5-30 feet tall. Grows best in partial sun.

Cypress - Evergreen conifer with blue or green foliage. Height range from 12-50 feet tall. Grows best in full sun.

Foundation to soften home

Boxwood - Evergreen with small leaves. Easily pruned for a formal look. Grows 4-6 feet tall. Grows best in partial sun. 

Willow - Deciduous with pink stems and buds and white/green foliage. Fast growing, up to 15-20 feet tall. Grows best in partial to full sun.

Viburnum - Deciduous with dense dark green foliage and bright orange/red fruit. Grows 6-8 feet tall. Grows best in partial to full sun.

For accents and color

Rhododendrons - Evergreen with trusses of brilliantly colored flowers. Grows 5-7 feet tall and best in partial sun. 

Hydrangea - Deciduous with white flowers maturing to pink and green foliage.  Grows 8-15 feet tall. Grows best in partial sun.

Lilac - Deciduous with deep green foliage and lavender flowers with wonderful fragrance. Grows approximately 10 feet tall and best in full sun.
