Father’s Day Never Tasted Better!

Or smelled better either! Why is Father’s Day igniting our senses? Because Sawyer Home & Garden Center is hosting Weber Weekend this Saturday, June 20th! From Noon to 4:00pm a Weber Representative will be here grilling up some pizzas for everyone to try. Michigan made BBQ sauces and grilling spices will also be available for sampling.

Yes, you read that right, we will be grilling pizzas! If you won’t be in Harbor Country this weekend try the homemade grilled pizza recipe below! Why would you want to grill a pizza? Why not? Keep the heat outside where it belongs, instead of heating your oven to 450º on a hot summer day!

Summertime Grilled Pizza

Ingredients:

Brooklyn Bred® Pizza Crust
Stonewall Kitchen Fra Diavolo Sauce
Olive Oil
Corn Meal
Mozzarella Cheese
Your favorite pizza toppings

Directions:

  1. Prepare your grill for high direct heat. Prepare small bowl of olive oil for brushing on the pizza and greasing the grill grates. Chop up veggies and prepare any other pizza toppings.
  2. Once the grill is hot, dip a tightly folded paper towel in olive oil and use tongs to wipe the grill grates. Lightly dust a cookie sheet with corn meal and place dough on it. Let the dough slide off the cookie sheet onto the hot grill. Close grill lid and let cook for 2-3 minutes.
  3. After a couple minutes check underneath the dough to see if it has browned. If it is on one side and not the other use a spatula to rotate it and cook for another minute. The top of the dough should start bubbling up with air pockets.
  4. Once the dough is browned use cookie sheet to remove dough from grill and use a spatula to flip it over so the grilled side is up. Make sure the grill is covered while you top the pizza so it retains its heat.
  5. Coat the grilled side of the dough with a light layer of olive oil. Then cover with red sauce (a little goes a long way, do not overdo it or your pizza will be soggy). Sprinkle on your toppings, then the mozzarella. If you are using a meat on your pizza make sure to put it on top of the cheese. Remember to keep toppings light or your pizza will be soggy and heavy.
  6. Slide the topped pizza back onto the grill. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 more minutes, or until the bottom begins to char and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Pull off the grill and place on flat surface and let cool for a couple minutes before cutting.
  8. Enjoy!
