 We get excited this time of year, when the first "frost hardy" pansies are violas arrive.  For the eager Gardener, they are really the first sign that spring is here!  Before planting be sure to harden pansies off by exposing seedlings to cold temps in short doses--bringing them back into a sheltered, but cool garage at night. Repeat for two or three cycles, and then enjoy the beautiful pop of spring color.  The good news is, a brief dip below freezing is not fatal to these plants, they may look a little droopy, but will perk up in no time.
