Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about what you might want to get for your loved ones. Chocolates, jewelry, stuffed animals…and of course, flowers. Roses and carnations always seem to make the top of our lists, but there are great potted plants that are also beautiful options, and will leave your Valentine with something to cherish even longer. Some of these flowers get overlooked at times, but maybe that’s just because we don’t know enough about them! Let’s take a look at three great flowers that would melt any Valentine’s heart.
Hyacinths:
Hyacinths are Spring-flowering bulbs with long, narrow leaves that are folded lengthwise. They are highly-fragrant, and bloom in dense clusters. Hyacinth Fun Facts:

- In the Victorian language of flowers, the Hyacinth flower symbolized sport or play.
Primrose:
Primrose flowers in early Spring, actually getting it’s name from a French word meaning “first rose”. It is a low-growing plant with a basal rosette of leaves.Primrose Fun Facts:
- February is the ‘birth month’ of Primrose. So, all those born in February, this is your flower!
Tulips:
Tulips are Spring-blooming perennials that grow from bulbs. Although they are typically associated with the Netherlands, they actually were first commercialized in the Ottoman Empire. Tulip Fun Facts:
- There are over 3,000 varieties of tulips
- Most tulip petals are edible
- The city of Albany, New York plants more than 200,000 tulip bulbs each year
