Job Description

Sawyer Home & Garden Center is now seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and knowledgeable Seasonal Plant Sales Associate to join our team! If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love working outdoors, and enjoy providing excellent customer service – a seasonal position at SGC may be a great fit for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cheerfully greeting & assisting customers with questions relating to general plants.
  • Stock, water, and maintain plants, keeping them healthy and visually appealing.
  • Work hands-on with a variety of plants.
  • Assist customers in plant selections, offer knowledgeable advice on plant care, placement and maintenance.
  • Merchandising with shop ability in mind, keeping similar items grouped together, staying mindful of bloom time & season.
  • Unload deliveries, push & pull carts unassisted.
  • Ensure all products are accurately priced and up to date.
  • Collaborate with team members, ensuring smooth daily operations.
  • Operate POS system at registers when needed – following SGC procedures.
  • Cross-train in other areas for back-up

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of annuals, perennials and how to care for them. You will need to identify a wide variety of annuals and perennials daily.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment – completing tasks that are strenuous in nature – standing, lifting, bending, regularly lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted, traversing uneven surfaces, consistently working outdoors and extensive walking.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service, showing up each day with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Available Full-Time, on weekends and holidays. Seasonal positions, our hours of operation are 9AM-7PM daily.
  • Prior retail/plant sales experience.

  • Strong ability to multitask in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency while staying comfortable in a fast-paced setting involving many people while keeping up a team oriented personal attitude.
  • Adaptable to changing tasks, willing to learn about new plants, products, and care techniques
