It is Produce Season!

The scent of freshly picked cherries and berries fills the air of our farmers market every morning. It is such a satisfying sight to see more and more signs read “Locally Grown in Michigan”.  This may be the last few days of strawberries and asparagus, but green beans and peppers will be here soon! Right now we have rhubarb, zucchini, yellow squash, onions, peas, cucumbers, and raspberries all grown in Michigan!

I don’t know about you, but when things are locally grown, I think they taste better! Studies show that the longer produce has to travel to get to your table, the more nutrients it loses. That means when you buy Harbor Country produce you are not only supporting local farmers, but getting more for your money! All local produce at Sawyer Home & Garden Center is grown within 30 miles of the store.

With locally grown produce comes specific availability times. The calendar below can be helpful for basic time frames. However, it is all subject to change as many factors determine harvests.
